Ring Floodlight Cam 4K Plus Review

The Ring Floodlight Cam 4K Plus pairs 4K video and bright 2,000-lumen floodlights in a wired package built for driveways and gardens, but its best features depend on a subscription.

3.5 / 5

Pros

  • + Retinal 4K video with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom
  • + Bright 2,000-lumen motion-activated floodlights
  • + Wired power with 24/7 recording support
  • + Built-in siren you can trigger from the app
  • + 3D Motion Detection for broad outdoor coverage
  • + Live View, Two-Way Talk and notifications work without a subscription
  • + Competitive launch pricing ($219.99 US / £199.99 UK)

Cons

  • − Reviewing, saving and sharing video require a paid Ring Subscription
  • − Requires a 4-inch round, UL-listed weatherproof junction box, so installation is more involved
  • − Wired-only design limits where it can be mounted
  • − Real-world image quality and detection accuracy not yet verified

The Ring Floodlight Cam 4K Plus is part of the five-camera 4K lineup Ring announced in October 2026. Its pitch is simple: one fixture that both lights up and records a broad outdoor area such as a garden or driveway. On paper the combination of Retinal 4K video, 2,000-lumen motion-activated floodlights and a built-in siren makes it one of the more complete deterrent-style cameras in Ring's range.

It is aimed squarely at homeowners who want permanent, always-on coverage. Because it is wired and needs a 4-inch round, UL-listed weatherproof junction box, it suits people replacing an existing outdoor light fitting, or those willing to hire an electrician. Renters and anyone hoping for a quick, tool-free setup should look elsewhere in the lineup.

It costs $219.99 on Amazon's US store and £199.99 on Ring's UK store. That is reasonable for a 4K floodlight camera, though ongoing subscription costs need to be added to the real price of ownership.

This assessment is based on Ring's published specifications and launch coverage, not on hands-on testing. That means we can't yet judge real-world image quality, night performance, how accurate the motion detection is, or how reliable the camera is over time. The rating reflects that limitation.

Going by the feature list, the hardware is strong:

  • Wired power with 24/7 recording support. This removes battery anxiety and makes it well suited to continuous monitoring, which is the main reason to choose a hardwired floodlight over a battery model.
  • 2,000-lumen floodlights plus a siren you can trigger from the Ring app. Together these give it real deterrent value beyond simply recording an event.
  • 3D Motion Detection and up to 10x Enhanced Zoom. These should make it more useful for tracking movement across a large space and picking out detail. How well they work in practice is untested.
  • Live View and Two-Way Talk work without a subscription. So do instant notifications, so the camera isn't useless if you never pay.

The biggest drawback is that reviewing, saving and sharing video all require a Ring Subscription, starting from £4.99 per month per device in the UK. A free 30-day trial is included. Without a subscription, the 4K footage and 24/7 recording lose much of their value, because you can only watch live. The junction-box requirement also narrows who can realistically install it.

Overall, this looks like a capable, well-equipped floodlight camera at a fair price for buyers already committed to the Ring ecosystem and its subscription. We'd hold off on a stronger recommendation until its image quality and detection accuracy can be confirmed in testing.
