What Notion Announced on October 19, 2026
On October 19, 2026, Notion announced a broad set of upgrades to Notion AI. The update touches nearly every part of the company's AI offering, from how tasks are routed to models to how teams pay for and govern AI usage.
The announcement covers:
- More capable Notion Agents
- An upgraded Auto model router
- Bring Your Own AI (BYOK)
- An improved Notion MCP
- An AI Command Center, which is coming soon
- A new credit system
The Upgraded Auto Model Router: Similar Results at About 90% Lower Cost
The headline claim centers on Auto, Notion's model router. According to Notion, Auto matches each task to a model that balances quality, speed, and cost.
Notion says Auto delivers results similar to frontier models at about 90% lower cost. The company says this makes credits go about 10x further.
Notion also says that across 20+ common tasks, Auto delivered results similar to Opus 5.5 and Astra at about 90% lower average cost. These are Notion's own figures, not independent benchmarks, so readers should treat them as the company's characterization of its router's performance.

Notion Agents Rebuilt: New Infrastructure, Their Own Computer and Browser, and Longer Tasks
Notion Agents have been rebuilt on a new harness and infrastructure with smarter context management. Several new capabilities come with the rebuild:
- Their own computer and browser: Agents now have a dedicated computer and browser to work with.
- 'Review for me' mode: A new mode that adds safety checks.
- Longer-running tasks: Notion's own materials give slightly different figures here. The release notes say agents can work on tasks for up to 24 hours, while the blog says agents can work on a single task for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes.
- Faster mobile chats: Notion says chats load up to 50% faster on mobile.
Bring Your Own AI: ChatGPT Plans and Enterprise Keys
Notion is also opening its AI to outside subscriptions and keys. Users can now connect ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Go plans to their personal Notion Agent, and that option is available now.
For larger organizations, Bring Your Own Key is in private alpha for Enterprise customers.

The New Credit System: Standard vs. Select Credits
Alongside the product changes, Notion introduced a new credit system. Business and Enterprise seats include two kinds of monthly credits:
- Standard credits are used when Notion picks the model.
- Select credits are used when the user picks the model or runs Custom Agents.
Notion says most users are unlikely to run out of their monthly credits. The company also says buying credits is no longer required to start building custom agents, which lowers the barrier for teams that want to experiment.
AI Command Center (Coming Soon): Usage Visibility and Admin Controls
Notion is also preparing an AI Command Center aimed at administrators. It is not available yet, but Notion has described what it will do:
- Show AI usage by person, feature, and agent
- Let admins set spending limits and alerts
- Let admins control which models and agents a team can use
Notion MCP Overhaul
Notion calls Notion MCP its fastest-growing product ever and says it has been overhauled as part of this release.
- Memory sync is live now.
- Skills via MCP are coming soon.
