Announcement Overview
Apple announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip on October 27, 2026. According to 9to5Mac, the new machine replaces the M5 model as the base 14-inch MacBook Pro.
Owners eyeing higher-end configurations still have options. Per 9to5Mac, Apple continues to sell the M5 Pro and M5 Max models alongside the new M6 version.

M6 Chip: CPU and GPU Performance
At the heart of the update is the M6 chip, which features a 12-core CPU that Apple says has the world's fastest CPU core.
The chip also has a 12-core GPU. Apple makes two performance claims for it compared with M5:
- Up to 30 percent faster at graphics
- Up to 25 percent faster at AI workloads

AI Hardware: Dual Neural Engine and GPU Neural Accelerators
Apple has put a clear emphasis on AI hardware with the M6. The chip includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, for 32 cores in total. Additional Neural Accelerators are built into the GPU.
Apple says the M6's Neural Engine is up to 1.9x faster than the one in M5.
Memory Bandwidth
MacRumors reports that memory bandwidth rises from 153GB/s to 170GB/s. There is a catch: the higher bandwidth applies only to models configured with 24GB or 32GB of memory. Buyers who care about this upgrade should check which memory configuration they choose.
Connectivity and External Display Support
Wireless connectivity also gets an upgrade. The new MacBook Pro supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, up from Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 on the previous model. MacRumors reports that this connectivity comes via Apple's N1 wireless chip.
External display support improves as well. According to MacRumors, the laptop can drive two external 4K displays at up to 165Hz, up from 144Hz.
Battery Life and Fast Charging
Apple rates the new 14-inch MacBook Pro's battery life at up to 24 hours.
When it is time to top up, 9to5Mac reports that fast charging can reach up to 50 percent in 30 minutes. Fast charging requires a compatible higher-wattage USB-C adapter, such as the 96W Power Adapter.
