Googlebooks are here: five launch laptops
The first wave of Googlebook laptops has arrived, and it comes from five familiar names: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Preorders opened on September 21, 2026, and the laptops are set to land in US stores on October 4.
Pricing: $899 to $1,299
Starting prices for the launch lineup range from $899 to $1,299.
- Acer Googlebook 14: The cheapest of the bunch at $899. Acer says that figure is a limited-time launch price, so it may not stay there.
- Dell XPS Googlebook: Starts at $999.
At the top end, the most expensive launch model starts at $1,299.
Software: Android with ChromeOS desktop foundations
Googlebooks run on the Android stack, built out with ChromeOS desktop foundations. The result pairs Android at its core with the desktop groundwork Google developed for ChromeOS.
Google also promises up to 10 years of updates for Googlebooks, according to one report. Only a single source has reported that commitment so far.
Shared hardware: chips, memory and fanless designs
Despite coming from five different manufacturers, the launch models share a common hardware baseline:
- Processors: Either a Snapdragon X Elite or an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) chip, paired with a 45 TOPS NPU.
- Memory: 16GB of RAM as standard, with 32GB available on some models.
- Cooling: According to Ars Technica, all of the designs are fanless.

The Glowbar
Every Googlebook includes an illuminated Glowbar, a light strip that can show battery or charging status at a glance.
Exactly where it sits is less clear. Ars Technica places the Glowbar on the lid, while Techaeris says it sits at the top of the keyboard deck.
Battery life claims
Google has set battery expectations for the lineup:
- Up to 14 hours of video playback
- Up to 16 hours of web browsing
These are Google's own figures, so real-world results will depend on the model and how it's used.
Bundled subscriptions and trials
Each Googlebook ships with a set of software extras:
- 12 months of Google AI Pro, including 5TB of cloud storage
- A three-month trial of YouTube Premium
- A three-month trial of Adobe Photoshop
- A three-month trial of CapCut
Where and when to buy
Preorders are available now through the Google Store and Best Buy. In the US, Googlebooks arrive in stores on October 4.
The international rollout follows a day later. On October 5, Googlebooks reach Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.
